Odor And Assault At Friendly Kitchen Sends 2 To Concord Hospital

The soup kitchen was evacuated due to an odor in the building and a person feeling sick. An assault injury was reported at the same time.

CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters as well as police were sent to The Friendly Kitchen on South Commercial Street Sunday for two calls. At just before 5 p.m., fire dispatch received a call about a person feeling sick in the building due to an odor. The building was being evacuated as firefighters headed to the soup kitchen.

Dispatch reported a few minutes later that a person was also injured from a fall at the Friendly Kitchen. Dispatch asked firefighters if they wanted a second ambulance but the first responding firefighters said to hold off until they could find out what was going on.

Firefighters entering the building reported smelling cleaning compounds but nothing else, according to scanner chatter. They went into the building later with meters in an effort to find out where the odor was coming from. A patient was taken to Concord Hospital from feeling dizzy, according to dispatch.

A second ambulance was called after EMTs determined the person who fell was involved in an assault. Firefighters requested police to the kitchen to investigate the assault case. The second ambulance took that patient to the hospital.

Firefighters aired out the building while police kept people from going back inside. Later, officers went to Concord Hospital to speak to the victim, a woman, about the assault case, according to scanner chatter.
