Officials Investigating Untimely Death At Merrimack County Jail
McKenna Rae Marshall, who was being held as a dual-status detainee since late November 2023, was found unresponsive in her cell Monday.

BOSCAWEN, NH — Merrimack County corrections officials and the sheriff’s department are investigating an untimely death of a woman in custody at the jail.
On Monday, while conducting regular rounds, McKenna Rea Marshall, 29, of Concord, was found unresponsive in her cell at the Merrimack County Jail on the Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen. The jail superintendent, Travis Cushman, said corrections officers and medical staff “immediately administered emergency aid,” and fire and rescue teams transported her to Concord Hospital. She passed away later, he said.
“Our goal is to provide every person residing in the Department of Corrections with a safe and secure environment,” he said. “The staff take their responsibilities very seriously. It is tragic whenever a situation like this occurs. We wish to express our condolences to McKenna’s family during this time.”

Cushman said Marshall was detained as a dual status since Nov. 27, 2023.
According to Concord police, she was arrested that day on a bench warrant, other active warrants, and a criminal trespass charge at an apartment on Loudon Road after a call for service claiming she was at the residence violating a trespass order.

According to superior court records, Marshall was being held after the county attorney’s office requested a motion to vacate her bail order on Nov. 28. The request came after she failed to appear at a review hearing in Merrimack County Superior Court on Sept. 14, 2023, after pleading guilty to acts prohibited in February 2023. Marshall received a suspended sentence in the case but was accused of violating her probation months later, in June 2023.
Since 2009, she has been charged or arrested 18 times, according to court records.
