GRAY, ME — Forecasters warn of a slippery commute on Wednesday morning and then blustery weather afterward.

The National Weather Service issued both a winter weather advisory and a hazardous weather outlook between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, warning of freezing rain and then blustery wind.

“Patchy, freezing drizzle expected,” forecasters said, “although ice amounts will be light, the freezing drizzle is expected to fall on cold bare pavement. This will lead to the potential for glaze ice formation on untreated roads — leading to extremely dangerous travel conditions.”

“Slow down and use caution while traveling,” the alert stated.

Later on Wednesday, forecasters warned of wind gusts of as high as 40 mph and possible power outages.

“From early Wednesday evening through the day on Thursday as a low-pressure system sends a strong cold front through the region Wednesday evening and overnight,” the second alert stated. “A brief period of damaging wind gusts could also occur Wednesday evening along the front as it crosses through along with an isolated thunderstorm.”
