Pickup Truck Driver Accused Of Intoxicated Hit-And-Run Crash In Concord

Update: A driver was accused of crashing on Herbert Street, driving through a fence, and ending up at the fire department HQ, a mile away.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a drunken driving hit-and-run accident on Wednesday.

Just before 9:30 p.m., police dispatch received reports about a dark-colored vehicle driving on Herbert Street, striking another vehicle, and then driving across the railroad tracks and into the area of the Friendly Kitchen.

The dispatcher said the front plate of the pickup fell off during the crash. While en route, dispatch told officers the vehicle was a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with front-end damage.

As officers exited their cruisers to inspect the damage on Herbert Street, dispatch received another call saying the pickup truck was in the area of the Santander Bank location on North State Street with two flat tires.

“There’s a male outside of it wandering around,” the dispatcher said.

However, the first arriving officer said the truck was actually on Horseshoe Pond Lane, in the central fire station parking lot. It was registered to a man from Epsom, police said.

On Herbert Street, an officer confirmed crash debris, including a section of fencing knocked down and a South Commercial Street sign on the ground. According to scanner chatter, the officer also matched the Herbert Street plate to the truck off on Horseshoe Pond Lane. The officer removed the debris from the street and headed to the officers outside with the truck.

One of the homeowners on Herbert Street also caught the crash on security video, an officer told dispatch. In the video, an officer said it appeared the driver threw “some items out of his vehicle” near the Friendly Kitchen. Those officers then went to search the area for the items.

While on Horseshoe Pond Lane, fire officials also requested police investigate a vehicle parked in their parking lot with Massachusetts plates. Dispatch said it had been there for a bit of time.

After field sobriety tests, the driver, Brian Lemay, 40, of Epsom, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated-second offense, speeding, conduct after an accident, and a stop sign violation.
