According to an arrest report, the charges stemmed from criminal activity on a number of days in October 2013, and November 2013 at the TD Bank NH, Checkmate Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, Bejing & Tokyo, Rent-A-Center, Walmart, and a Tahanto Street address.
According to a court affidavit, on Nov. 28, Santiago’s adoptive mother met with police about the forgery allegations. She alleged that she and her husband had been having problems with Santiago, their adult, adoptive son, who was living with them.
The woman stated that she was going through her bills on that morning and discovered a check missing from her checkbook. She called the bank and was told that it had been cashed for $200 and allegedly made out to Santiago.
She stated that she always keeps her pocketbook and checkbook with her at all times and on the morning in question, she had forgotten to take her purse into the bathroom when she took a shower.
“She believes that this is when Angelo took the check,” the officer wrote.
The woman stated that they had “been trying to get help for Angelo” and stated that most of the problems occurred when “life isn’t working out right for him.” She noted that a relationship recently ended for him and just like in the past, Santiago was allegedly stealing again.
About a week later, on Dec. 4, the woman reported another incident, this time, Santiago allegedly cashed a check from State Farm for $224.48 to the couple. The check was allegedly forged with her signature, signed by Santiago, and cashed at the Northway Bank.
On Dec. 15, a lieutenant went to Northway Bank and received photos of the person cashing the check and later, an officer reportedly confirmed it was Santiago in the still shots.
An arrest warrant was sworn out for Santiago on Jan. 5, and he was arrested last month.
Previously, Santiago was arrested in 2012 on an assault charge and in 2013 on theft and other charges.
