Radio, TV Stations Win Awards

Concord's Jim Jeannotte named Broadcaster of the Year.

The New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters held its annual Granite Mikes Awards on Oct. 18, and a number of local broadcasters and entities walked away with awards.

The New Hampshire Public Radio network took home a number of awards including first place in the talk show, sports feature, and local special program/event categories, and a merit award in the newscast category.

Marga Bessette of WZID-FM won first place in the newscast category and the station’s website also came in first.

WJYY-FM won first place in the commercial campaign category for Faulkner’s Green Thumb. The station also received a merit award in the station website category.

WMUR-TV won the most awards – 10, with WBIN-TV winning nine awards.

Jeannotte honored

Also honored at the festivities was Jim Jeannotte, who was given the prestigious Broadcaster of the Year award.

Jeannotte has been involved in some form of New Hampshire broadcasting since the 1960s when he began play-by-play announcing at high school sports games on WKNE in Keene, and later, WKXL in Concord. He became “the voice of UNH sports” in the 1970s and 1980s broadcasting games on radio and New Hampshire Public Television.

Jeannotte has been named New Hampshire Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Sportscaster of the Year 23 times. And, for nearly 30 years, Jeannotte has been host of “Granite State Challenge” on NHPTV.
