In Northfield, on the northbound side of the highway at around 12:30 p.m., a trooper in the air spotted a 2006 BMW M5 “traveling at an extremely high rate of speed” and reportedly clocked the vehicle at 128 mph in a 70 mph zone, according to Capt. Matthew Shapiro of the NHSP.

The trooper in the air radioed to the ground and another trooper was able to stop the vehicle and arrest the driver, Melo. He’s due in Franklin District Court on Sept. 13.

“The NH State Police Special Enforcement Unit regularly interdicts elevated speed violations and other aggressive driving behaviors,” Shapiro noted. “Its members patrol across the state often utilizing the state police aircraft during commuter traffic periods and holiday travel times with the goal of keeping New Hampshire’s roadways safe for all residents and visitors.”
