Recovery Operation Underway Along Merrimack River: Update

There is an active investigation on the river involving the Hooksett police and NH Fish & Game. More info will be released Thursday.

HOOKSETT, NH — Officials are searching the Merrimack River as part of a recovery operation of a possible driver and vehicle Wednesday. Hooksett police have been attempting to locate the vehicle for most of the day. At just before 1 p.m., Hooksett firefighters launched its boat at the town launch on Merrimack Street as part of a water-ice rescue, according to scanner chatter and dispatch.

At just after 2 p.m., the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team helicopter began searching parts of the river, too, starting at the Merrimack Station in Bow and traveling south.

New Hampshire Fish & Game Department arrived in Hooksett to assist with the search at just before 4 p.m.

Specifics about who and what kind of vehicle they are looking for and specifics about the incident are not available at post time. The search was called off around 5:30 p.m.

Hooksett Police Chief Janet Bouchard requested people "stay away from the area" due to an active investigation and privacy concerns. More information is expected to be released Thursday.
