Red River Theatres, NHPTV Offer Free Screenings

Community Cinema project presents three films in February, March, and May.

In 2015, New Hampshire Public Television and Red River Theatres will be continuing a series of free Community Cinema screenings featuring films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens, offered to our audience before the films air on NHPTV. Community Cinema is a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative bringing together leading organizations, community members and public television stations to learn, discuss and get involved in today’s critical social issues.

Join us for a screening of a film and active post-film panel discussion.

All Films begin at 6:30 p.m. at Red River Theatres. Admission is FREE. Reservations at the links below are encouraged.

AMERICAN DENIAL

Using the story of Gunnar Myrdal’s 1944 investigation of Jim Crow racism as a springboard, American Denial explores the power of unconscious biases and how the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice still impact notions of race and class today.

Post-film conversation will be hosted by Woullard Lett, longtime social justice advocate and former president of Manchester NAACP Unit 2069. Additional panelists include South Hampton police chief and state senate candidate Chief Eddie Edwards, Rev. Ray Ealy of New Fellowship Baptist Church, Nashua, and Jack Resch, Program Coordinator and Prof of Humanities, UNH-Manchester, who designed and taught a course on Gunnar Myrdal and Implicit Bias studies.

Three homeless teens brave Chicago winters, high school pressures, and life on the streets to build a brighter future. Against all odds, they recover from a life of abandonment to create new, surprising definitions of home.

Panel for this film has yet to be finalized, but will include local advocates including Concord Coalition to End Homelessness.
