Safety Officials: Prepare For Winter Storm To Strike New Hampshire
National Weather Service issues "winter storm warning"; state officials warn of slippery commutes on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

CONCORD, NH — The National Weather Service has issued a “winter storm warning” for New Hampshire.
At the same time, officials also request residents to make plans and take precautions now for dangerous conditions on state roadways on Thursday afternoon and evening as well as Friday morning.
NWS forecasters said “moderate to heavy” snow was expected with some freezing rain, which will be added to the mix at times. Accumulations will be between 5 to 8 inches with some ice. Forecasters called the ice to be “a light glaze.”

“Additional light and fluffy accumulations” were likely Friday during the day, an alert said.
The storm warning will run from 4 p.m. on Thursday to 7 p.m. on Friday.
The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management urged residents and visitors to prepare for the storm.
“Take action now to keep you and your family safe,” HSEM Director Robert Buxton said. “Stay informed by listening to local weather reports. Have a plan in case an emergency does happen. Avoid traveling if possible. If you must travel, ensure your car’s winter emergency kit is ready.”
Second Storm On Sunday
NWS forecasters also warned Granite Staters to prepare for a second storm along the coast, which was expected to bring more snow to the state.
Specifics were unknown, but the storm was expected to “impact the region” on Sunday night and Monday.
“This system will also have the potential to bring strong winds and coastal flood concerns as we enter a period of high astronomical tides,” Thursday’s alert stated.
Buxton provided these additional winter weather reminders:

- Monitor National Weather Service radio or broadcast weather reports to keep track of changing conditions.
- Consider working or schooling from home so crews can safely clear the roads.
- Slow down and move over for emergency vehicles.
- Never crowd the plow.
- Before traveling, clear all snow and ice off your vehicle, including your roof.
- Bridges, overpasses, and exposed road areas are the most prone to slippery conditions.
