CONCORD, NH — This year’s Operation Santa Claus effort, which provides gifts to thousands of children in need in the Granite State, is short on sponsors … about 500.

The SEIU 1984/SEA program, run by volunteers, including many retired state employees, hopes to provide 3,000 children with gifts this year. As they have for more than 60 years, Operation Santa Claus has been “a beacon of light for families facing difficult circumstances,” the org said. The premise is simple: Bring happiness and hope to children in need during the festive holiday season.

The organization said the need was more significant this year than ever, with another 500 sponsors needed to ensure every child in need in the state will receive holiday gifts this Christmas season.

“We believe that every child deserves to experience the magic and wonder of Christmas, regardless of their circumstances,” Rich Gulla, the president of the SEA, said. “We rely on the generosity of sponsors to make that happen, and right now, we need 500 more people or businesses to step up and help us meet our goal.”

Sponsoring a child is just $75, either by contributing directly to the organization or agreeing to sponsor a child. A wish list of potential gifts for each child — with clothing, toys, or necessities, can be purchased.
