GRAY, ME — Weather forecasters warn that severe, strong storms are heading to New Hampshire.

The National Weather Service issued a “hazardous weather outlook” on Friday for most of the state, including all Patch communities, warning of “strong to severe thunderstorms” this afternoon and evening as a cold front moves into the region.

“Current guidance suggests the best chances for strong to severe storms will be across much of New Hampshire and interior western Maine — although this potential may shift depending on the timing of the frontal passage,” an alert stated around 8:30 a.m. “Stronger thunderstorms may produce strong gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall.”

The timeline for the “greatest threat” of the storms hitting the state is between noon and 8 p.m., forecasters said.

AccuWeather.com said the storms might “include tornadoes,” which could damage trees and homes while causing travel headaches.

"The thunderstorms will break out across portions of the Northeast on Friday afternoon as a front dividing warm and humid air to the east from slightly cooler and less humid air to the west approaches," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said.

The storms are expected to hit the Seacoast around noon and again around 8 or 9 p.m. Concord and the capital region will see the heaviest rain around 6 p.m., while Nashua and surrounding communities have the greatest chance to see storms around 7 p.m.

The weather for the rest of the weekend and early next week looks really good.
