Sex Offender Now Living In Concord Arrested On Drug Charges In Hooksett

Tyler Root was charged earlier this week after police checked a vehicle with an active protection order in the Market Basket parking lot.

CONCORD, NH — A local sex offender is due in court next month after being arrested on Tuesday on drug charges in Hooksett. Tyler Root, 29, of Concord, was arrested on Aug. 22, 2017, and charged with two counts – one a felony – of possession of drugs-Suboxone, marijuana. According to police, officers patrolling the Market Basket parking lot saw two men and two women standing outside of a vehicle, according to Sgt. Mike Zappala of the Hooksett Police Department.

“The license plate of the vehicle was checked which notified the officers that the owner of the vehicle was the defendant in an active protection order,” Zappala said. “Officers checked on the subjects and confirmed that there was no violation of a protection order.” (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Concord NH Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

However, during the process of checking the vehicle, officers allegedly detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After a consent search, Suboxone and marijuana were allegedly found in the vehicle and Root was arrested. He was processed and released on personal recognizance bail. He’s due in Merrimack County Superior Court on Sept. 7.

Root, according to reports online, is a registered sex offender having been convicted of sexual assault in March 2014, reportedly on a minor. In September 2013, he was a fugitive of the week and captured in Brockton, MA. Previously, according to the state of New Hampshire, he was convicted of a probation/parole violation in February 2015, breach of bail in March 2014 – after reportedly contacting a girl four times while living in Barnstead, as well as March 2011, and criminal trespass, contempt, and assault charges at various times since 2007.
