Shooting Investigation Underway In Concord's South End: Watch
Update: Police are investigating a shooting incident on Pierce Street on Thursday. One arrest, unrelated to the case, has been made.
CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a shooting in the city's South End neighborhood on Thursday.
At just before 3 a.m., officers were sent to Pierce Street for a report of a man firing a handgun a half dozen times in the middle of Pierce Street. The first caller told dispatch that they heard yelling and screaming but could not see anyone else.
The watch commander moved officers to points around the city in case they were needed for backup or people or vehicles fleeing the area while the first responding officers approached the area on foot. Other witnesses told the officers there were at least six shots and one also heard banging on a door of an apartment building before the gun shots.

Residents on Thorndike and Perley streets also reported hearing multiple gunshots. One witness said they saw a Caucasian man firing the handgun and then, they got into a car and left the area.
After two shell casings were found on Pierce Street, officers closed down the area.

During the investigation, police learned there was surveillance footage in the area and worked to get that evidence. The man was wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans. The man's back, however, was to the security camera, the witness said. After firing the shots, the man fled the area, according to the witness.
The southern section of Pierce Street was closed for a number of hours after police placed at least four yellow markings on the street to show where shell casings were found. New Hampshire State Police also assisted Concord police.
John Thomas, the deputy chief of the Concord Police Department, said the shooting incident was still under investigation and there was limited information to share due to the open investigation. He confirmed that one person was arrested on an active warrant at the same time as the shooting but that arrest was unrelated to the case. A man caught on surveillance camera was seen going into a home in the neighborhood. Thomas said investigators applied for search warrants and more information would be released soon.
