Shots Fired Call Reported In Penacook

Update: Concord Police were sent to Canal and Crescent streets on Sept. 16, 2017. Investigators are requesting tips from the public.

CONCORD, NH — Concord Police spent a number of hours on Saturday night searching for a man in Penacook after a reported shooting on Sept. 16, 2017. A number of residents reported hearing gunfire – as many as nine shots, according to one person – in the Village. Police, according to scanner chatter, confirmed that a man fired a weapon at the intersection of Canal Street and Maccoy Street.

Det Sgt. Robert Buelte of the Concord Police Department confirmed early Sunday morning that the department was investigating a "shots fired call" and that all the involved parties are believed to have been identified and is not believed that there any risk to the public. The incident was first reported at around 7:15 p.m.

A woman could be heard crying and screaming over the scanner after police arrived at the scene and began searching homes and the wooded area along Crescent Street for the suspect. New Hampshire State Police also brought in a K-9 unit in an attempt to track the suspect.

Concord Police have set up a perimeter between the Contoocook River near Maccoy – in order to preserve the initial crime scene – as well as side streets along Canal. According to scanner chatter, units from Boscawen, Canterbury, Webster, and state troopers assisted with the perimeter and the manhunt.

Police searched the grounds of Penacook Family Physicians, a wooded area next to the medical building, as well as the attic of a home on Crescent Street, after a resident reported hearing noises inside his home. At 8:45 p.m., police left the house and said it was safe.

At just after 9 p.m., police opened up the area and began clearing the other officers from the area. Police are still on Crescent Street securing evidence.

A second round of gunshots were reported at just after 9 p.m. on Merrimack Street, according to dispatch. Police also reported that in Boscawen, people were shooting off fireworks tonight, too. One Patch reader said that fireworks were being shot off on Queen Street which may have been the cause of the second set of noises.

At around 9:45 p.m. Boscawen Police radioed Concord Police and reported that they had a man temporarily taken into custody for questioning on Honey Drive in Boscawen making observations in the area after making contact with the man.

No injuries resulted from the incident, Buelte noted, and he requested that anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the incident was being asked to call the Concord Police Department or Concord Regional Crimeline at 603-226-3100.
