Smoke On The Concord Heights; Sirens In The West End: What’s Going On In The City?
A couple of community mysteries, quickly solved and revealed for residents who are both new and old.

CONCORD, NH — If you were out and about on Friday and saw thick black smoke coming from the Concord Heights and wondered what was going on, keep reading.
The smoke may have seemed to come from Concord Airport. But it was the New Hampshire Fire Academy on Smokey Bear Boulevard. The program has an Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Facility for training, including half a fuselage of a large plane lit on fire so firefighters can practice extinguishing the plane and rescuing passengers during an emergency (I could have sworn I had video footage of it, since I attended a simulation many years ago, but I couldn’t find it).
Several readers, a few weeks ago, wondered why they were hearing air raid sirens across the city.

That is the emergency notification system from St. Paul’s School in the West End. The school tests the system usually a few times a year, in the spring, summer, and early fall. The siren can be heard many miles away from the school.
