Snow, Ice, Hazardous Winter Weather Set to Hit NH

The National Weather Service has issued a weather warning for the Granite State. Here are the details and a timeline for the next 36 hours.

GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook warning for this weekend’s storm warning Granite Staters to be prepared for up to 6 inches of snow as well as icy traveling conditions this weekend. As predicted earlier this week, the storm, which is currently in the Midwest, stretches across more than 1,000 miles.

It is expected to hit New Hampshire early tomorrow morning and last through Sunday morning, according to the alerts.

“Snow will develop around or just before daybreak tonight and continue into Saturday,” according to the alert. “The snow will mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain late Saturday and Saturday night before changing to rain early Sunday morning.”

The temperatures are expected to warm up just a bit, especially from the very cold wind chill temperatures that occurred around the state today, including -17 below in Concord, -15 below in Nashua, -21 below in Portsmouth, and -82 below zero on top of Mount Washington.

Up to 6 inches of snow is expected for most of the state with sleet and freezing rain following the snow making it difficult to travel. A small section of the state – between Nashua and Windham, coastal Rockingham County, up to Portsmouth – will see between 1 and 3 inches of snow. Winds will be out of the south, around 5 to 10 mph.

On Sunday morning, the storm will turn to rain as the temperatures are expected to increase into the upper 40s. During the evening, the temps will drop back down into the lower teens, causing black ice driving conditions on Sunday night and possibly Monday morning.

Temps will be in the 20s on Monday and will drop back down into the single digits during the evening, according to forecasters.
