So You Want to Steal My Name

This morning my wife mentioned to me that someone had commented on my recent blog (Some Thoughts) and used an alias that misspelled my name. So whatever their point is, using someone else’s identity to make a point seems to me to be as cowardly an act as there is. I say this because the web provides everyone the opportunity of anonymity. So why would a person steal someone else’s identity. I’ll tell you why, they believe they can intimidate you.

I have never shied away from criticism or critiques when it comes to my opinions. In fact I have welcomed them and I have on many occasions responded and left the door open for a dialogue with that person. Regardless of whether they have identified themselves or used an alias. 

So I find it offensive that someone would use an alias that misspells my name, for any reason. If you don't have the courage of your own convictions - in this case to identify yourself - and you feel you need the cover of an alias, at least have the integrity to use an alias that doesn't attempt to steal someone else’s identity. 

This in my opinion is absolutely typical and predictable of those I disagree with. This is absolutely typical behavior for those who have anointed themselves as Concord's 'elite' and no one, least of all I, should be surprised. One only needs to look at how this group attacked our downtown merchants when 72 of them voiced concerns about changes to the downtown prior to the release of the Rethinking Main Street report. 

The principals of that report wrote a supplemental report viciously attacking anyone who dared question them. So while I don't have perfect grammar and I do get it wrong from time to time, you and your ilk can continue to attack me (and others) from under your rock, but you won't change my opinions. In fact all you have done by using my name is to reinforce my convictions that it isn't the strength or value of your ideas that defines you, it is the fact that you feel you can intimidate others that identifies your lack of values and integrity.

So if you have something to say, go at it. If you don't want to identify yourself, the web gives you complete anonymity. But stealing someone else's identity because you don't have the courage to link your name with your convictions, speaks volumes about the coward you truly are.
