Spaulding Honored With Bench At Merrimack County Complex In Boscawen

The late county commissioner and Executive Councilor, who died in February, spent about 34 years serving the county.

BOSCAWEN, NH — Merrimack County Commissioners gathered with family and friends of the late County Commissioner Peter J. Spaulding last week.

In honor of his 34 years of dedicated service to Merrimack County as a county commissioner, as well as 24 years of service on the New Hampshire Executive Council, a bench was placed at the county complex overlooking the campus.

Commissioner Tara Reardon welcomed many family and friends to the celebration of Peter’s service to Merrimack County. Dedicating the bench in the late Commissioner’s honor, Commissioner Reardon explained, “Peter left an indelible mark on our county and the state of New Hampshire.”

Commissioner Stuart D. Trachy recalled the history of their working relationship dating back to the late 1960s and early 1970s when Peter assembled and served on the Do the Right Thing Committee, stating that, “Peter carried their mission forward in everything he touched. Everywhere we look Peter’s fingerprints are here — a lasting tribute of his service to the county and state.”

Commissioner David M. Lovlien Jr. spoke to Peter’s commitment to Merrimack County District 3 and to the fact that his length of service was the true definition of commitment.

Lastly, friend Mike Dennehy spoke of his personal and professional time spent with Spaulding. Dennehy shared that the best years of his life were because he got to spend time with Peter, and there was a lot more to Peter than just politics — Peter was always focused on his family and he was so proud of his kids and wife, Beth.
