Spike Strips Stop Wrong Way Drunken Driver On Interstate 89: New Hampshire State Police
Allen Whitcomb of Henniker was stopped in Hopkinton and arrested Wednesday after being accused of driving north in the southbound lane.

CONCORD, NH — A man from Henniker was arrested on several charges Wednesday after being accused of driving the wrong way on Interstate 89 while intoxicated.
Around midnight, New Hampshire State Police dispatch began receiving reports of a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane of I-89 in Concord. A witness provided updates about the pickup truck's location and gave that information to troopers. While troopers were en route, Hopkinton police positioned themselves to stop the vehicle by using spike strips.
Amber Lagace, a spokesperson for the department, said Hopkinton officers were able to deploy the spike strips and intercept the truck successfully.

The driver, Allen Whitcomb, 69, of Henniker, was arrested by Hopkinton police on aggravated driving under the influence and resisting arrest or detention charges. New Hampshire State Police charged him with reckless conduct. Whitcomb was released on personal recognizance bail and is due in Concord District Court at a future date.
