CONCORD, NH — The Division of Public Health at the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services said Thursday that two individuals in the state, who recently traveled to Wuhan City, China, and had 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus symptoms, do not have the virus. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed their tests were negative and both patients have fully recovered from their symptoms, officials said. More than 7,000 cases of 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus have been identified in 15 countries — including five confirmed cases in the United States.

Hundreds of other people, with symptoms, are being tested.

"We have not yet identified any individuals infected with this novel coronavirus in New Hampshire, but we continue to work closely with healthcare providers and the CDC to protect the health of our communities," New Hampshire State Epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan said. "Rapid identification and testing of individuals is critical in preventing the spread of this novel coronavirus. We will continue to work with healthcare providers to monitor for any additional suspect cases that may occur in New Hampshire and test as appropriate based on a person’s symptoms and travel to affected areas in China. The risk to our communities remains low."

The state has asked heath care providers to alert the Division of Public Health if they identify patients who have traveled to the Hubei Province in China and exhibit symptoms such as fever or respiratory issues within two weeks of travel. This way, the state can assess the patient's risk, assist with testing, and also isolate potentially ill patients.

Gov. Chris Sununu, R-NH, said he was "pleased" the patients have recovered.

"It is important to note that the state of NH followed all CDC guidelines in assessing these potential cases and had a plan in place to stop the potential spread of this virus," he said. "Our state remains vigilant in monitoring any potential cases and are well prepared for any future potential incidents."
