Sing, Dance and Paint (3-6 years): Art, dance, music, poetry and writing will be used in many combinations throughout these classes, which are specially designed to encourage exploration of the interrelationship of the fine arts. Children will paint to music, create dances from stories and create stories using instruments.
Move, Shake & Sing (8-30 months): Explore musical instruments, sing new songs and dance! This class for toddlers and their parents / care providers will engage children from head to toe and keep everyone moving.
Yoga & Dance (2-6 years): Explore yoga stretches and dance moves with your child. Learn sun salutations and a variety of animal poses all designed to bring peace and happiness into your day.
Jazz Camp
July 7-11, 2014

Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Participants will work in ensembles, performance classes, the recording studio, improvisation workshops and master classes for each instrument. The week culminates in a recording project of all the ensemble performances. Jazz Camp is open to instrumentalists, ages 12 – adult, of all genres.
Creative Arts Camp
July 14-18 and July 21-25

For children entering grades 1-6
These one-week sessions will engage students in music, movement, visual art activities and indoor and outdoor games. Each day, participants, who will be grouped by grade level, will rotate through planned activities, scheduled breaks and lunchtime. Students may enroll for one or both weeks, since although the curriculum and goals remain the same, the activities will vary between the two weeks.
Singing/Instrumental Music: Maria Isaak
Participate in a broad range of fun vocal and instrumental experiences and develop some music theory and reading skills. Students will play in a recorder ensemble, learn a scene from a musical, try some orchestral instruments and sing.
Dance and Creative Movement: Heather Oberheim
Learn basic dance steps and styles while exploring space, time, shape and weight. We’ll bend, twist, shake and wiggle!
Visual Arts: Danielle Hinton
Play with color and texture, create with everyday objects and observe the styles of great artists and make them your own. We will work on a variety of projects together but will leave plenty of time to explore individual creativity. Projects may include batik textile design, miniature terrariums, paper quilling, mixed media collage and Zentangle art.
Individual instruction
Lessons are available for all ages and musical abilities in voice and most instruments on a flexible schedule agreed upon by student and teacher, taught by Music School faculty members.

Faculty Bios:
Heather Oberheim directs the early childhood program at the Music School. She also travels to other sites to teach through the School’s Music in the Community Initiative (MICI), including programs with pre-school special needs children and Laconia teens enrolled in an early childhood education program. Heather earned her undergraduate degree at Colby-Sawyer College, majoring in psychology with a concentration in dance. She also holds a master’s degree in dance movement therapy from Antioch New England Graduate School.
Tom Robinson received a bachelor of music in jazz studies from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. He has studied saxophone with Michael Cox, and piano with Mark Flugge and Joe Hunter. He was selected for Ohio Music Educator's All-State College Jazz Ensemble in 1992-1993. Robinson, who also teaches at Plymouth State University, performs throughout New England as a sideman with several jazz groups as well as leading and writing for his own trio. He has recorded five CDs.
David Tonkin: Jazz faculty chair - jazz guitar, jazz ensembles, Scholarship Jazz Ensemble
David studied jazz guitar with Ed Cory, Jay Azzolina, and Randy Roos. He has worked with the New Hampshire Artists in the Schools Program, led workshops at Dartmouth College, and taught at UNH- Manchester. He performs throughout New England, and is founder of the David Tonkin Group and Tonkin Toys. Tonkin performed in two sold-out performances with Straight No Chaser at the well-known New York City jazz club, The Blue Note, and at the Saratoga Jazz Festival. An active composer, his work has been heard on radio and television throughout the area.
Don Williams received a Bachelor of Science degree in music education at Plymouth State University, with further study in the master of fine arts program in music at the University of New Hampshire. He performs often with Raccoon Beach, Tonkin Toys, Plymouth State University Faculty Quartet, and the Loli Sterling Group. He has appeared at The Blue Note, Rainbow Room, and Saratoga Jazz Festival, and has performed with the Platters, Randy Brecker, Jack Wilkins, and Bob Guilotti. He is also on the faculty of Plymouth State University.
John Faggiano: Department chair - percussion, drum set, percussion ensembles
John Faggiano trained at Acadia University and Berklee College of Music and has studied privately with Ed Nicholas, Gary Chaffee, Alan Dawson, and Nuru. He teaches extensively in the Music School’s Music in the Community Initiative (MICI) and he has developed and facilitated seminars for community building through drumming. An adjudicator for the New Hampshire Jazz All- State, Faggiano is also a member of the Vic Firth Educational team. He teaches at St. Paul’s School and has performed at the Blue Note in New York City and the Saratoga and White Mountain jazz festivals. Faggiano is a founding member of the performance group Applehead. As a 20-year veteran of the band, The Knights, he has performed with The Drifters, Gary Chaffee, and Pat Metheny. He also has recorded extensively, including CDs with the Dave Tonkin Group, Steve Schuch, and Peggo & Paul.
Maria Isaak received her master’s in music from the New England Conservatory in Boston. Maria has worked as a freelance bassoonist throughout New England including the Portland Symphony, Portland Chamber Orchestra, New Hampshire Philharmonic and many others. In addition to teaching bassoon and directing the children’s choral program at Concord Community Music School, Maria teaches at Saint Paul’s School and Berwick Academy.
Danielle Hinton is a mixed media and jewelry artist whose pieces have been sold all over the world, including France, Germany, Italy and the UK. She also works in colored pencil, acrylic, textile design and stained glass and does freelance graphic design work. Danielle has taught sewing, knitting and crochet classes and occasionally takes on custom works. She is the registrar at the Music School and has also been a piano student.
