Teen Burglary Suspect Allegedly Attacks Cop During Arrest: NHSP
Ryan Gobin of Newport was arrested last night on numerous charges. During processing, he allegedly assaulted and choked an officer.

NEWPORT, NH — A local teen, suspected in a wave of burglaries and thefts in Newport, allegedly got into an altercation with police last night during an arrest, according to New Hampshire State Police. Ryan Gobin, 18, of Newport, was arrested on June 27, 2017, for attempted burglary, second-degree assault, and theft by unauthorized taking, all felonies, as well as simple assault, resisting arrest, and two counts of breach of bail. At around 8:30 p.m. last night in the Whipple Road area of the town, police and state troopers were called to a report of a man attempting to gain entry into an occupied residence who later fled the area.

While searching for the suspect, a second burglary call was reported by dispatch at a local bait and tackle shop.

“Within seconds of that call, Newport Police officers and officers from the New Hampshire State Police were on scene and located a subject matching the caller’s description as well as the previous descriptions from earlier reports,” according to a report. “Upon the arrival of the officers, the subject started to flee from the closed business. That subject was taken into custody after a brief struggle with the responding officers.”
The suspect – later identified as Gobin – allegedly had evidence linking him to one of the burglaries, according to NHSP.

During the process of being booked, however, Gobin allegedly attacked and choked an officer, and had to be restrained. Since he was out on bail from a previous arrest, he was held.
