Teen Charged for False Gun Report at Concord High School in April

A 16-year-old girl was charged on June 11 and will be arraigned during the next week in family court.

The girl who made a false report to police about a student threatening another student with a gun at Concord High School has been charged.

The 16-year-old girl, whose name is being withheld due to her age, was formally charged with false report to law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to a press statement by Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit for the Concord Police, detectives “formally charged” the girl on June 11, and she’ll be arraigned at Sixth Circuit District Division Court (Concord Family Court), during the next seven days.

The charge comes about six weeks after police and special operations forces were called to the high school for a report an 18-year-old male student threatening another student.

Law enforcement teams cordoned off the high school on April 30, evacuated the building, went room-to-room looking for the alleged gunman, and then later, searched areas around the high school, but were unable to find the student. Later, the teen was found at his home, arrested, and charged with felony criminal threatening.

As the night wore on though, the case began to fall apart.

“Detectives assigned to the case conducted a follow up interview with the alleged victim, described as a female juvenile (approximately 16 years old),” O’Malley stated. “As a result of this interview, detectives determined that the victim had lied about events and that the incident had not occurred as originally reported.”

The charge was dropped against the male teen and he was released from custody and the charge against him was dropped.
