
The Pierce Brigade announces the 2014 Brigade Lecture Series program calendar. The Brigade Lecture Series is produced by the Pierce Brigade and held at 7:00 pm March through October in Concord at the Pierce Manse—the historic home of President Franklin Pierce. The year long series focuses on New Hampshire history and culture. Brigade Lecture Series programs are free and open to the public.

Highlights from the upcoming 2014 program season include “They Sawed Up a Storm: the Women’s Sawmill at Turkey Pond, NH, 1942,” by Author Sarah Shea Smith; “Music that Shaped a Nation,” presented by Historical Musician Bob Kilham; “The Power of Community and Sarah Orne Jewett,” presented by The Pontine Theatre; “The Capital Crime of Witchcraft,” presented by Margo Burns and sponsored by the NH Humanities Council; and a 40th Anniversary Celebration and Concert by The 39th US Army Band—NH Army National Guard. “This marks the 40th Anniversary of the Pierce Manse’s opening as a historical museum. Each year, the Brigade Lecture Series is a great opportunity for the public to visit President Pierce’s historic home and to explore new topics in a truly unique setting,” said Joan Woodhead, President of the Pierce Brigade. “This year’s line up of programs ranges from the historical to the musical to the theatrical and we invite the public to join us the fourth Thursday of each month to explore New Hampshire history and culture in more depth.”

The Pierce Brigade is the membership organization dedicated to preserving the home and legacy of President Franklin Pierce. President Pierce and his family owned the Pierce Manse from 1842-1848. In 1971, the Pierce Manse was saved from demolition by the Pierce Brigade and moved to its current location at 14 Horseshoe Pond Lane in Concord, New Hampshire.
