The Purple Pit Jazz Club to Close
Last night of entertainment slated for next weekend.

The Purple Pit Jazz and Blues Club on Pleasant Street Extension will close next weekend, according to a post on the club’s Facebook site.
The club, which offered live music and an opportunity for patrons to bring their own wine and spirits into the club while enjoying the music, said it was closing because “the landlord has decided not to renew the lease," according to a graphic posted, offering thanks to musicians and supporters.
“Thank you all for a memorable and exciting 2 years!!!,” the club wrote online.

Response to the announcement was upsetting to some with fans wondering if the club would open up somewhere else, in another location, and others complaining about the landlord.
Evangelos Lillios, the owner of the building, said that the nightclub was a tenant-at-will and didn’t have a lease, so there was no lease to be broken. He declined to talk about any other issues regarding the club, the building, or its rental spaces.

Code enforcement officials contacted Lillios about falling bricks from a chimney at the building previously. Lillios had the chimney fixed not long after being notified about the problem.
