CONCORD, NH — A report of a wrong-way driver in Concord led to a boy from Tilton being accused of crashing a car into a tree on Rockingham Street Sunday.

Around 12:45 a.m., a Concord police officer reported to dispatch they were following a black Toyota Corolla on South Main Street that refused to stop. The driver reportedly drove the wrong way and took off when signaled by the officer to stop. The report was also given to New Hampshire State Police.

A second Concord officer then reported the driver of the car, traveling at a “high rate of speed,” near the S&W Bike Shop, heading toward the Exit 12 area. State troopers also headed to the area and checked Interstate 93 for the car.

Not long after, Concord dispatch received a report the car had crashed at the intersection of Rockingham and South Main streets. The airbags were deployed on the car, but no one was inside or in the immediate area.

Officers began to set up a perimeter to find the occupants. The car, dispatch said, was registered out of Tilton.

Just before 1 a.m., one of the officers spotted a pedestrian on Joffre Street who was later identified as the driver, a 14-year-old boy. According to an officer, the boy claimed he was the only person in the car.

During the investigation, police learned other teens were in the car, but they could not identify how many. Later, they learned three boys and a girl were in the car when the driver crashed it, according to scanner chatter. More officers were sent to the area attempting to locate the other teens.

Dispatch reached the car's registered owner, and she requested a call from an officer at the scene.

Around 1:45 a.m., police learned a second juvenile was reportedly driving a black Honda SUV, and they were requested to keep an eye out for the vehicle. An officer in the field immediately radioed the watch commander to tell them they had seen a black Honda SUV circling the area earlier. They also stated there was damage to the driver’s side rear door of the SUV but were not sure it was connected to the Rockingham Street crash case.

Dispatch then sent officers to Broadway and Pillsbury Street for a report of two people in the area, one of them, a woman, appearing to have a panic attack. The dispatcher did not know if the pair were involved in the case. The arriving officer said the pair were with a black Volkswagen Jetta. Later, that officer cleared the area.

A tow truck was requested around 2:15 a.m.

Dispatch later learned the name of the girl who was reportedly a passenger in the car and lived on Shaker Road. An officer was sent there and spoke with a parent who stated the girl was in Tilton based on a cellphone ping.

Dispatch then learned Tilton police were off with the second vehicle, which had five people inside, and the girl was in that vehicle.

A Concord officer then took the 14-year-old Tilton boy home. Dispatch also confirmed from police in Tilton that all the other kids were there and accounted for.

NEWS 603 posted a video from the scene on Facebook.

Chichester fire and rescue teams and police were sent to a crash on Sunday on Bear Hill Road.

The crash occurred not far from Route 28 around 1 a.m. The call initially came in from county dispatch, which also reported a utility pole was snapped during the crash. County also said the driver did not appear to be injured.

The first firefighters arrived around 1:15 a.m. and confirmed the pole was snapped and Unitil was on the scene. Firefighters were evaluating the driver.

Around 1:45 a.m., the fire commander said the driver was cleared and the vehicle towed from the scene. Fire teams, however, would be at the scene “for a bit,” waiting for Unitil to return with supplies to fix the pole.
