Unwanted Subject Case At Concord Hotel Leads To Bomb Threat

Concord police were sent to the Residence Inn on Hall Street where a man was accused of bothering guests and barricading himself in a room.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police have at least one person in custody after an unwanted guest call turned into a barricaded subject who was accused of making bomb threats on Thursday.

At just before 7:30 p.m., police were sent to the Residence Inn on Hall Street for a report of an unwanted guest. Dispatch reported a Caucasian man, with curtain rods, was bothering other guests at the hotel. An employee tried tracking the man on surveillance cameras as he was running around the hotel.

Dispatch told the officers that the subject, who is currently homeless and formerly from Franklin, had an active trespass letter that needed to be served to him after another incident at the same hotel last week.

Later, the suspect made his way to a room on the first floor, locked himself inside, and turned the lights off. Police attempted to get an electronic key so they could access the room and began talking to him through the door. Officers also suspected there might be a second person in the room, according to scanner chatter.

Concord firefighters were called in and staged near the hotel in case they were needed. New Hampshire State Police also arrived as backup.

Officers stated the suspect had barricaded the door and window in the room and more officers were sent to the hotel.

As he spoke with officers through the door, the suspect also reportedly called 911 and said he had a bomb, according to dispatch.

"He called 911 again," dispatch told officers at the hotel. "He said he had a bomb in the building and we needed to bring somebody bigger than the police."

Police were able to make their way into the room and Tased the suspect. He then, according to their reports, barricaded himself in a bathroom. Police then requested firefighters to come to the hotel for medical aid. The officer also confirmed there was a second person in the room.

Around 9:15 p.m., police took the man into custody.

A watch commander was not available for comment at post time to confirm the suspect's name and charges. The suspect, however, has a number of prior cases in Merrimack and Belknap county superior courts dating back a dozen years.
