UPDATE: Man Found Deceased at Rumford Street Fire

State officials: Concord victim's name not released yet and the cause of death and fire cause are being investigated.

New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J. William Degnan, Concord Fire Chief Daniel Andrus and Concord Police Chief Bradley Osgood announce that a fatal fire investigation at a multi-family dwelling located at 96 Rumford St. in Concord, according to a press statement.

The Concord Fire Department was dispatched at 3:24 a.m. to the above address for a report of smoke in the building. Upon their arrival at 3:29 a.m., responding units observed heavy fire blowing out from the first floor windows. Upon entry to the building, firefighters discovered a deceased male occupant located on the first floor of the building.

Positive identification of the victim and cause of death are pending notification of family and an autopsy that will take place this morning, at the NH State Medical Examiner’s Office in Concord.

The fire is under investigation by members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Concord Fire Department, and the Concord Police Department.

“Although the origin and cause investigation is ongoing, preliminary indications are that the fire originated on the first floor of the multi-family dwelling,” according to a statement from Thomas Schutzius, an investigator for the state, and Stacey Dubois, a district chief.
