Verbal Argument Escalates into Second-Degree Assault

Concord Police find woman covered in blood, arrest Nicholas Caiazzo on charges.

A local man is facing two assault charges after a fight with the mother of his children.

Nicholas W. Caiazzo, 27, of Summer Street in Penacook, was arrested at 7:51 a.m. on Aug. 1, on second-degree assault, a felony, simple assault, and a bench warrant.

According to an arrest report and court affidavit, officers were sent to an apartment on 6 Summer Street at around 2:15 a.m. for a report of a domestic assault.

When the officers arrived, they found a woman whose face, hands, and clothing, were covered in blood. The woman was “hysterical and largely unable to focus on any questions,” so police called Concord Fire and Rescue teams to assist her with medical attention.

The officers saw “a large amount of blood on the steps and trailing into the house,” including a door, doorknob, and in the kitchen and living room.

The woman reportedly wouldn’t tell officers who assaulted her so the officer went to check on the children to make sure they were OK. All four children appeared to be in good health, according to the officer.

One of the children told the officers that her parents were arguing loudly and yelling at each other. She alleged that Caiazzo pushed her mother in the living room into a brown shelving unit and fell into it. She also alleged that Caiazzo threw a chair at her mother, which hit her in the face. Another officer spoke to the other children and they alleged that Caiazzo threw a chair at the woman.

The woman was transported to the hospital where a doctor reported that she had a laceration above her left eye that required 13 stitches as well as a fractured left orbital and contusions in the back of the head and the hip area.

After being treated, the woman was calmer and spoke to the officer, reporting that the two got into an argument and “things escalated very quickly.” She told the officer that she threw a chair at Caiazzo and he threw it back at her and it struck her in the head.

“When I asked about the other injuries, she got too emotional and said that she did not want to answer any more questions,” the reporting officer stated.

Five hours later, Caiazzo reportedly called into the station and told the reporting officer that he was at his mother’s house and would be willing to speak with the officer.

Two Concord officers and a Boscawen officer met with Caiazzo on Crescent Street where they found him on the side of the road.

Caiazzo alleged told the officer that the two were fighting and the woman pushed a chair at him and as he tried to catch it, he pushed it back toward her.

“Caiazzo told me that he did not hit her with the chair, and as far as he is aware, he did not knock her over,” the officer wrote.

Caiazzo was arrested and held without bail. He was arraigned later that day.

Last year, according to the New Hampshire State Police, Caiazzo was arrested on a drug charge.
