VIDEO: Burgerfest Ends Saturday
Annual event at The Barley House raises money for CHaD.
The seventh annual Burgerfest event at ends on Saturday, so if you haven’t stopped by to try out the new gourmet burger options, time is running out.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of burgers and beers go to CHaD, the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.
This year, according to owner Brian Shea, the restaurant will donate $1 for every special burger purchased. The burgers also have sponsors who will kick in a dollar. If you wash the burgers down with a beer, will kick in $1 too.

“We’re doubling what we’re going to give to CHaD this year,” Shea said.
The Barley House has also teamed up with Fred’s Fund, another local initiative raising money for CHaD. Together, they are on track to raise $25,000 to $30,000 for the hospital.

The most popular burger this year is the Paleo Caveman, with all-natural bison burger, with avocado, grilled romaine, tomato, an apple celery slaw, bacon, with an optional fried egg, but no bun.
Shea’s personal favorite is the California Turkey Melt, with ground turkey, avocado spread, Monterey Jack cheese, with a grilled sourdough bun.
“It’s a really good combo … (the bun) is very buttery and creamy,” he said.
Other tasty options include a spicy Cajun Jerk Chicken sandwich, which features a grilled pineapple ring with sweet cherry glaze, the Spider Crab Seafood sandwich, which features a tempura battered fresh soft shell crab clawing its way over a haddock and shrimp patty with wasabi mayo, and the Widow Maker, a beef patty with mac’n cheese, a breaded and fried thick cut tomato, Guinness cheese sauce, and honey cured bacon.
The event ends on Saturday, June 23.
