Ward 2 Meeting Recap

Last Friday, State Representative Paul Henle and I met with residents of Ward 2 at the Newell Post Restaurant. With interest and concerns about the reintroduction of the Manor Station power line by PSNH there were approximately 2 dozen people in attendance. PSNH sent representatives to the meeting to explain the project, answer questions and make appointments to meet with abutters.

Because of the many concerns of those in attendance the meeting focused on discussing the project and how abutters and PSNH could work together to minimize the impact of the reintroduction of power lines and poles through the PSNH right of way.

While the power line right of way has existed since 1917, for many years PSNH has not maintained the right of way and in 2010 they removed many of the lines and poles. So even though there were poles and wires in the corridor previous to 2010, because they hadn’t maintained the right of way for many years, the visual impact was minimal.

With the reintroduction of poles and power lines this summer, PSNH currently has a policy that will have them maintaining the full width of the corridor, which in most cases will be 100’. This was the major point of concern from the abutters. Is there a way to minimize the visual impact of the corridor.

While there are still a number of concerns from the abutters, PSNH stated that they have a number of options available to them to limit the visual impact of this project. It is my understanding that PSNH and the abutters will continue to work together to continue to find the best possible solutions to minimize the impact of this project.

I want to thank Deb and Dave Newell for once again opening their restaurant and providing a meeting place for us. The folks from PSNH for coming out and meeting with us and most importantly you, the residents of Ward 2, who took time from your busy schedules to share your thoughts and concerns with your neighbors.

Paul and I are planning on another meeting soon. While I would like to meet before the city’s budget is voted on by the city council on June 5th, we would appreciate your feedback as to when you would next like to meet again.
