Ward 4 Concord City Councilor To Resign

CONCORD, NH — Another special election will be coming to Ward 4 after its city councilor plans on resigning.

Meredith Hatfield confirmed on Monday, minutes before the April city council meeting, that she would be resigning.

Hatfield put her North End home up for sale in March after purchasing another property out of town. Not long after the home was listed, the online listing was marked as "contingent," meaning it had an offer on the property.

On March 16, Patch emailed Hatfield about her home being listed for sale to ask what was going on. On Monday, she confirmed she would be resigning from the council.

Hatfield ran for the open Ward 4 seat after Byron Champlin won a special election for an at-large seat. She easily won with 149 votes besting John Cook, a former mayoral candidate, who came in second with 99 votes while Edith Chiasson, who works for the state lottery, earned 51 votes. Turnout was about 10 percent.

Hatfield ran unopposed in November 2019.

Details about a future special election were not available at post time. The special election in June 2019 cost the city a few thousand dollars.
