Was Fashion a Winner at the Oscars?

Ray Boucher, Fashion Expert, and Owner of Britches of Concord, offers his comments and opinions on the recent Academy Awards red carpet travelers.

“There was definitely a trend away from the tried-and-true black tuxedo look at this year's Academy Awards. Men seemed to be dressing out of their comfort zone at the same time showcasing different options for men to dress for formal events like this. Witness Michael Strachan's wine colored tuxedo with black lapels and flap pockets. Great looking in my opinion. Another fashion twist sported by both Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto was the white jacket with black trouser along with either a black or white vest.

One of the more surprising trends was how much navy was being worn by both men and women for this event. Kelly Ripa and Sandra Bullock wore navy blue dresses. On the men's side, Kevin Spacey looked great in a lighter shade navy jacket with contrasting trousers.

It was nice to see a lot of bow ties being worn. Very elegant. Styling was all over the place from peak and notched lapel jackets to vests with or without lapels. There were a few actors wearing a tonal look like a black tuxedo, black shirt with a black four-in -hand necktie.
