“The gem-stone in question is a fake,” according to Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit, “however, resembles a diamond. It was welded in to place with wire which represents a ring setting. Of greater concern was the damage done to the statue when the false-diamond was removed. Repair costs are estimated at approximately $350.”
Surveillance video shows a white male walk past the store font at approximately 4:25 a.m. This subject is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a design on the front and back. He had on black pants with white or light colored sneakers. His face was covered by the hood.

This same subject returns a short time later wearing sunglasses and what appears to be a light colored cloth around his face. The suspect first attempts to pull out the gem-stone and then uses some sort of cutting instrument to cut the wire. The suspect eventually removes the gem-stone and flees in a northerly direction.
