WATCH: Canterbury Farmer Calls for Clean Energy by 2030

North Family Farm, a family farm which produces syrup, is completely powered by clean energy.

CANTERBURY, NH Today, NextGen Climate New Hampshire released a new video profiling North Family Farm, a family-owned maple syrup producer in Canterbury powered by 100 percent clean energy.

In the video, North Family Farm owners Tim Meeh and Jill McCullough discuss the impact climate change is having on New Hampshire’s maple producers - and the urgent need for our country to transition to more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030, according to a press statement.

“All of the energy that we use on our farm is completely renewable. We purchase no electricity from the power company, and our monthly utility bill is only the $12 service fee,” said Meeh. “50 percent clean energy for the whole nation by 2030 is doable - we do it here!”

“Maple syrup is a celebrated cultural icon in New Hampshire, and the North Family Farm is demonstrating how a clean-energy strategy can sustain it for future generations, “ said NextGen Climate New Hampshire State Director, Mike Padmore. ”Our leaders should pay attention to Granite State success stories like this and work to make energy cleaner and more affordable for every family and business nationwide.”

In addition to saving money, Meeh and McCullough have adopted sustainable business practices and invested in clean energy because they recognize the harmful impact climate change will have on their business and industry. Warmer-than-average temperatures affect the sweetness of tree sap and make it harder for sugar maple trees to grow - threatening maple syrup production.

This video is part of NextGen Climate New Hampshire’s “ReNew Hampshire” series, which calls attention to Granite State businesses that are embracing clean energy. In the lead up to New Hampshire’s First in the Nation primary, NextGen Climate New Hampshire is engaging voters across the Granite State to challenge candidates to lay out a plan to power the United States with more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030.
