Water Rescue Underway By Concord Fire, Others On Merrimack River

Update: Concord Fire and Rescue teams, others performing water rescue searching for capsized kayak.

CONCORD, NH — Nearly all of Concord's firefighters are on the Merrimack River on Thursday morning for attempting a water rescue. At around 7 a.m. on June 13, 2019, firefighters from Concord as well as Bow and Pembroke water rescue were called to the boat launch on Otter Drive off Second Street for a report of an overturned kayak. According to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus, two kayakers were paddling along the Merrimack when their kayaks capsized.

One of the kayakers was able to swim to a rock and then to shore to call 911. The other kayaker has not been seen since.

Bow firefighters later moved to the Everett Arena launch and where joined by Hooksett's boat launch to begin the search north from the southern section of the river.

At around 7:45 a.m., Allenstown, Boscawen, Hooksett, and Pembroke firefighters were called into the city for coverage during the search.

Firefighters are continuing to search the river. Andrus stated that they had found some belongings of the missing kayaker but have not found him or the kayak.
