Weekend Snow Coming To NH? Possibly

Forecasters: Merging storms from the south and north and arctic air could bring stormy weather to the Granite State on Saturday and Sunday.

Weather forecasters are warning that storms could be heading to the Northeast this weekend bringing bands of snow from both the north and the south as the coldest temps of the season also move into the region, according to alerts online. Cold, dry weather from the arctic as well as a low-pressure storm from the south could merge to offer “big snowfall” in some locations. Rain from the southeast and snow from the northwest will begin to move into the region late in the week.

The rain, as it reaches the Atlantic coast, is expected to turn north and become a wintry mix of snow and slush. A second storm, from the north, will swing south into the region on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

While the exact amount of snow is unknown, forecasters at Accuweather.com noted that “the most likely scenario is for much of the interior Northeast to be spared a significant snowfall.” However, if the storm is stronger and tracks farther west, “heavy snow (will) blanket the interior Northeast and parts of the Interstate 95 corridor.”

The second storm from the north is expected to deliver the “lake-effect snowfall” from the Great Lakes.

“By the time the second storm arrives on the scene, Atlantic Ocean moisture may be out of reach for most areas to receive big snow,” forecasters reported. “However, even a small amount of moisture available for the second storm may be enough to cause some trouble.”

The steadier part of the storm is expected to hit New England on Sunday.
