On the afternoon of April 11, I was coming home from a meeting in the southern part of the state and was driving up I-93, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw this huge blast of black smoke coming from the east side of the city.
I immediately started making some calls to see if there was a fire going on as I headed up Manchester Street, trying to get to as close to the smoke as I could. By the time I got up to Airport Road, the smoke had dissipated but the scent of burning chemicals was in the air.
I waited for a few minutes and didn't see any more smoke, so I started to go about my business when all of a sudden, there was another blast of smoke, this time, hanging just east of the Concord Airport. I took a quick picture before that plume of smoke disappeared and then headed over to Sheep Davis Road, hoping to get closer.

As I arrived I realized, the training academy is over there, of course! I drove down Smokey Bear lane as right as I was pulling off the road by the academy training grounds, another blast of flames and smoke started and I took this shot. Even from the road, inside my car, you could feel the heat from the flames.
