WMUR-TV Big Winner at Granite Mikes

Fritz Wetherbee named 2013 Broadcaster of the Year.

The New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters held its annual awards night, the Granite Mike Awards, on Oct. 17, and WMUR-TV had a big night.

The station won nine first place awards, including Station of the Year, and Fritz Wetherbee, the Emmy Award-winning commentator from “Chronicle,” was named Broadcaster of the Year. He’s been hosting the segment on “Chronicle” for 13 years, after also working in public television and radio around New Hampshire since the 1960s.

WCNL 1010 AM in Newport was named radio Station of the Year, with WZID in Manchester the runner-up. The New Hampshire Public Television network was the runner up in the television category.

NHPR won first place in the sports feature category for an ice climbing feature as well as a merit award in the documentary news category for a gun series and a merit award in the feature story category for a story about Grevior Furniture. The network also won a best use of digital media award for its NH Roads series.

WKXL’s “AM New Hampshire” morning news won a merit award in the newscast category.
