April happenings at Newmarket Public Library

Looking
to start your own organic garden but not sure how to start? Newmarket Public
Library will host a three-week series on organic gardening. The classes will be
led by Vincent Cirasole, a Master Gardener, commercial vegetable grower, and
organic growing enthusiast. The free classes will be held April 3, 10 and 17
from 6 to 8 p.m. Preregistration is required, call 659-5311 or

Love
chocolate? Be sure to stop by the library on Saturday, April 12th

between 1 and 3 p.m. as the Friends
of the Newmarket Public Library host the second annual chocolate festival.
Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children. And if you’re an aspiring baker or professional chef, fill out an entry form: http://www.newmarketlibrary.org/index.php/library-info/friends-library/chocolate-fest and create two dozen bite-sized morsels of your favorite chocolate treat. Cash prizes will be award to the top winner in both the individual and professional categories. 

     If you’d like some help learning new
technologies, one on one tutoring is available for computers or E-readers. Just
call or come in to make an appointment.

If cabin fever is setting in, the library has two new museum passes – the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester http://www.currier.org/ and Seacoast Science Center in Rye http://www.seacoastsciencecenter.org/. In addition, the library has passes to the Children’s Museum in Dover and See Science Center in Manchester.   

Would
your school-aged child like the opportunity to hear a story? Thursdays at the
Castle is just the thing. The story program, geared for students in grades one
through five, will be held Thursdays at 4 p.m.
And of course, story time for the preschool set continues on Tuesdays at 10:30. Children are invited to stop by for a
story and craft.

If you would like to get involved in something and love the library, think about joining the Friends of the Newmarket Public Library. The next meeting will be April 3 at 7 p.m.

Enjoy talking about books? Check out the Books and Coffee Discussion Group. This month’s book is “Fever” by Mary Beth Keene. The group will meet on April 18 at 10:30 a.m.

 And if you’d love to expand your book collection, be sure to check out the Friends’ monthly book sale being held April 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the library’s basement.

The library continues to host free movies on Friday nights. Features this month include: the second installment in a popular teen science fiction series based on the books by Suzanne Collins, starring Jennifer Lawrence (rated an animated classic, a mermaid wants to meet a human prince (rated PG13, 146 minutes, April 4 at 6:30 p.m.); set in World War II Germany, a young man finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others (rated PG-13, 131 minutes, April 11 at 6:30 p.m.); the story of how Walt Disney created a classic based on a book by P.L. Travers (rated PG13, 125 minutes, April 25).
