Letter To The Editor: Exeter Police Chief On Body Cameras

Dear Editor,

Across the country, ensuring law enforcement agencies have modern equipment to serve on the frontlines and maintain relations with the communities they protect has become increasingly important. In New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Accountability, Community, and Transparency Commission recommended the use of body cameras to do just that. But funding is needed to implement these recommendations so officers can safely serve their communities and improve transparency.

The Exeter Police Department continues to expand its commitment to community policing, and the deployment of body cameras will help to reinforce trust among community members and officers. We’re grateful that government funding legislation recently signed into law includes $232,000 for the Exeter Police Department to modernize its equipment, thanks to Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s efforts. The funds will empower the Exeter Police Department to purchase body cameras, as well as to equip cruisers with associated Wireless Access Points and necessary training and start-up equipment.

We’re excited that this funding will soon head to our dedicated and brave Exeter officers, who work day and night to keep their community safe.
