Mirsky: Strongest Candidates for President 2020: March On

The young people of America may soon impact New Hampshire's choices for President.

After the unspeakably horrible events of last week at a high school in Parkland, Florida, and with the spirited resolve of students everywhere to start taking control over the politics that caused these events, it may be that a new wave of political participation by young Americans will soon sweep the old guard aside. Let's hope so.

Meanwhile, if you are a Republican interested in politics, chances are you already know the individual your Party will choose to represent you in 2020.

If you are a Democrat, or a dissatisfied Republican, waiting for resignation or impeachment, I just don't see those things happening. The United States Constitution provides for the impeachment of a president only at that precarious moment when the political circumstances are so dire, so uniformly unsupportable, that everyone just agrees to throw the person out. I'm not sure that is really in the cards here.

You, the voter will decide.

So with the New Hampshire Primary drawing closer every day, I will start with my suggestions as to the strongest Republican candidates for President in 2020, followed by the Democrats. Remember, you live in New Hampshire, you can do something about this.

REPUBLICANS

1. President Donald Trump. You know who I'm talking about, you can read his tweets, he's the President. The Republican voter tends to stick with the strongest person. Right now, Trump, being the President of the United States, is strong. Trump maintains his strength by dividing America, so those of us who love America must keep alert to creating bonds of faith and hope, while decreasing bitterness and division, at least amongst ourselves.

2. Mitt Romney, current candidate for United States Senate in Utah. Mitt Romney, a former corporate raider who specialized in firing innocent workers, likely has a plan to remove Donald Trump as the leader of the Republican Party. Then again, maybe not. . . .

3. Governor John Kasich of Ohio. If Mitt Romney lacks the will to run for President again, John Kasich could be the person to defeat Donald Trump in the New Hampshire Primary. Kasich has strong support here, and might be able to pull good people from all across the political spectrum.

However, and this must be said, if you are expecting change from the Party in power, that is not how it usually works.

DEMOCRATS

There are too many strong Democrats to list everyone here. If you want to get on the list, come to Exeter, New Hampshire and meet some voters. The following are my top four for now:

1. Deval Patrick, former Governor of Massachusetts. An inspired and inspiring speaker, a realist, and a pro-economic growth leader. Vladimir Putin would not support him because Deval Patrick would make America strong and free and happy once again.

2. Joe Biden, former U.S. Vice President. Joe Biden is always on my list, as I have met him and members of his family, I have observed him in action: Joe Biden is a fighter, a warrior for justice. Also, Joe Biden has an immense inner strength, which is needed to unseat a sitting President.

3. Elizabeth Warren, United States Senator from Massachusetts. Donald Trump attacks Elizabeth Warren for issues concerning her heritage, and Elizabeth Warren is fighting back. You have to fight back against this sort of thing. Just ask Dan Rather, Edward R. Murrow, Woodward & Bernstein, etc. Among all potential candidates, Elizabeth Warren would do the most to uplift people who are having financial problems.

4. Chris Murphy, United States Senator from Connecticut. A blistering speaker. On the Florida school shooting, Murphy stated: "It only happens here, not because of coincidence, not because of bad luck, but as a consequence of our inaction. We are responsible for a level of mass atrocity that happens in this country with zero parallel anywhere else."

What I say is this: We can and should give our support with our hopes and prayers, but action and political organization are also important.

That's it for now. I'll see you in Portsmouth at 12 noon on March 24th at the "March for Our Lives."
