Mirsky's List of the Strongest Republican Candidates for President in 2020

Exeter Attorney David Mirsky's first take on the Presidential Race of 2020.

EXETER, NH — This is Exeter Attorney David Mirsky's List of the purported strongest candidates for President in 2020, today addressing the Republican side.

REPUBLICANS

Millennialist punditry would say our current President has the edge for 2020 right now, as Donald Trump, I will call him Donald, who is currently peerless as perhaps the worst President in United States history, is still getting free airtime for his campaign speeches on CNN. This is probably illegal, like many other things Donald appears to be doing. (I believe it would be illegal for CNN to make an in-kind donation to Donald's campaign by promoting and broadcasting his campaign speeches without charging him a fee.)

But other politicians still remain interested in obtaining the Republican nomination for President in 2020. So there is a list. Here's my current list for the GOP in 2020:

1. DONALD TRUMP, President of the United States.

If Donald continues to give either tacit or overt support to Nazis and racism in general, Americans will stop him. It won't be done by the news media, however, which is making too much money selling advertising for Donald's freak show. I, for one, will never, never, never forget that Donald gave the green light to the neo-Nazis after a peaceful protestor seeking to demonstrate against the hatred that forms the basis of Nazi philosophy, Heather Heyer, was killed in Charlottesville, Virginia. Heather Heyer was attempting to preserve civil rights and decency in America. Donald was supporting the other side. His "strategist" thought it was a great idea.

Donald's game is not as clever as he thinks. Because, as we shall see below, a line is already forming to replace him on the top of the GOP ticket for 2020. But it is early in his first term, and we really do not know what will happen. 2. PAUL RYAN, US Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Paul Ryan has been in this area recently (in New Hampshire, home of the First-in-the-Nation Presidential Primary). No doubt Ryan would deny that he is running for President, and would say that he is here only to raise money for his fellow Republican congressmen. But I think there is more to it than that. There are some important party leaders in the neighboring town of Stratham that he might be here to visit, people who might be willing to trade in buffoonery for some quiet Conservatism.

Paul Ryan's problem in a general election would be that he appears to oppose Medicare and Medicaid, which most people need. But Republican Primary voters probably do not care about that.

3. JOHN KASICH, Governor of Ohio.

Kasich was not successful here in New Hampshire in 2016, but he got the support of some important Republican leaders and was able to attract moderate Democrats and Independent voters. His problem: Not very interesting.

4. BOB CORKER, US Senator from Tennessee. Corker, a former Donald supporter, has burned all his bridges by openly questioning Donald's capacity to function properly as US President.

5. JEFF FLAKE, US Senator from Arizona. Another Donald supporter gone rogue. As Flake himself has pointed out, he will have problems simply because of his last name.

6. TED CRUZ, US Senator from Texas. Ted Cruz is the smartest Republican in the field, but lately has been sounding dangerously humane for a GOP presidential candidate.

Right now, I would bet on Ted Cruz to win the New Hampshire Primary in 2020.

If you have any other suggestions for GOP candidates, please include them in a comment.

I only have room for the Republicans today. Sorry!

Next time, the Democrats ...
