Newmarket High School Boys Basketball 2022-23 Season Preview

Coming off a big summer that saw them win the PCA Summer League championship, toppling preseason #1 Concord Christian Academy, the Newmarket Mules boys basketball team is set to kick off their season on Tuesday.

The Mules will face Nute High School in Milton at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6. Their first home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 13 against Franklin High School.

Newmarket was ranked #7 in Division 4 heading into the season by NH Sports Page, with junior Baris Fortier a preseason 2nd team All-State selection.

The Mules, led by second-year coach Brian Cronin, recently made the trek to Littleton for a preseason scrimmage against the Crusaders. Fortier scored 18 points, with junior Al Henry and sophomore Jaron LaBranche also in double figures and junior Parker Sweitzer adding 9 points and some tough defense.

Here's a quick look at the roster heading into the season:

LJ Boyd: A newcomer to the team, this sophomore and All-State tight end for the Epping/Newmarket football team is already making a difference on the court. Against Littleton, he was in double figures in rebounds and added an element of physical defense off the bench.

Nate Dyer: Only a freshman, Dyer looks like he could wind up being a key contributor this season. He's a strong shooter and ballhandler and was a big part of the team's summer run.

Baris Fortier: The 6'6" junior co-captain averaged 13 points per game as a junior, and is set to play a larger role as a ball handler than last year.

Al Henry: Henry is a rare big with shooting touch and could play a key role as a scorer and rebounder this season after being named MVP of the JV team last season.

Jaron LaBranche: Now a sophomore, LaBranche started at point guard in his first season and is already showing improved ball handling and leadership skills to go with his excellent long-range shooting.

Matt Napoletano: Another first-year player who made big contributions this summer. A strong outside shooter who opened some eyes with his defensive effort in some big wins during summer league.

Jameson Senesombath: The sole senior on this year's squad and the team's other co-captain is a fantastic outside shooter who is also strong driving to the hoop and often matches up against the other team's best offensive player.

Parker Sweitzer: With the offseason injury to senior Cooper Mills, this junior's toughness and defensive intensity are going to be even more important this season. He's also going to be asked to score more than he did last year, something he showed he could do against Littleton with drives to the hoop and from behind the three-point line.

Sean Vincent: This junior sniper will be one of the first guards off the bench and will be asked to help carry the load offensively for the second unit.

Carl Zheng: Another junior, Zheng will give the second unit some size and contribute with his high energy and defensive play.
