Unitil Offers Explanation About April 5 Power Outage

Rockingham County outage left more than 6,000 without power for a couple of hours.

EXETER, NH - After last night's power outage that left more than 6,000 Rockingham County residents without power, Unitil, one of the region's power companies, posted an explanation of social media about the incident.

"Our crews investigated last night's large outage in Seacoast NH and determined that the cause was a failed splice connection on one phase of a three-phase sub transmission line. The reason some folks experienced partial power is because when only one of three phases fail, streets that are fed with all three phases only received a fraction of the power they typically get."
