Woburn MA Man Indicted On Rape Charges At UNH

DURHAM, NH — A Massachusetts man was indicted on felony rape charge after a UNH detective forwarded both aggravated felonious sexual assault and violation of privacy charges against him.

Alexander “Ryan” Ludwig, 20, with a last known address of Hawley Street in Woburn, MA, was indicted in October on two felony aggravated felonious sexual assault charges in Strafford County Superior Court.

On May 31, a detective sergeant with the University of New Hampshire Police Department followed up on a complaint filed with a Title IX coordinator. A woman filed the report against Ludwig and he was notified a few days before about the report, according to an affidavit.

In the complaint, the woman said she found out she was sexually assaulted after hearing about a video of herself posted on Snapchat in mid-May. The victim described the video of herself, face down on a couch, partially naked, and exposed. Ludwig, she stated, was recorded sexually assaulting her when she was “too drunk to resist” and “too intoxicated to say no.” The attack took place in the Gables Apartment complex.

The victim stated there were at least five people at the apartment when the incident took place and they knew about the video, the affidavit stated. Two other people also saw the video but were not there, she said.

The detective posted a preservation order with Snapchat for the video and also requested a search warrant for Ludwig’s Snapchat account to find any evidence connected to the case. The video started on May 11 and went into May 12. The detective said there was probable cause to charge Ludwig with two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and two violation of privacy charges.

On June 21, the detective received all of the evidence from the search warrant and reconfirmed the probable cause suspicion, the report stated. The detective stated Ludwig and the victim appeared to be the only people in the living room of the apartment at the time the video was taken.

The detective wrote that “multiple witnesses” saw the video not long after the alleged attack occurred and contacted Ludwig and others, in an attempt to get the video taken down, the affidavit said. One witness said, after being contacted, she went into the living room, grabbed Ludwig’s cellphone, and deleted the post.

“It was reported that the video clip was on Mr. Ryan Ludwig’s Snapchat post for approximately eight minutes from the time it was seen by other people to the time it was deleted by (a witness),” the report stated.
