• NH Fish and Game to bill hikers for rescue from Franconia Ridge (concordmonitor.com) — New Hampshire Fish and Game plans to bill four New Jersey hikers for an overnight rescue on Franconia Ridge after they set out late and poorly prepared. Volunteers reached them near Mount Lincoln, then guided them over Mount Lafayette and down to Franconia Notch, prompting officials to remind all hikers to carry proper gear as days grow shorter and cooler.

• Injured Hiker Rescued on Garfield Ridge in Franconia (nhfishgame.com) — Emergency crews and local volunteers carried an injured Indiana hiker more than four miles out from Garfield Ridge to Gale River Loop Road in Franconia on Monday afternoon. The man, hurt near Mt. Garfield on the Appalachian Trail, was stabilized on scene and transported by Bethlehem Ambulance to Littleton Regional Hospital after a multi-hour effort by 31 rescuers.

• Stephen Morse Obituary (caledonianrecord.com) — Longtime Franconia and Littleton resident Stephen Gardiner Morse, a devoted family man and passionate skier, has died at 85 after complications from Parkinson’s disease. He helped shape local skiing through the Franconia Ski Club and its ‘Hopefuls’ program at Cannon Mountain, and his family invites memories online and suggests donations to support young racers in his honor.
