HAMPTON, NH — A local man, accused of assaulting his wife, has been arrested again after allegedly attempting to coerce her into falsifying evidence, according to police. Benjamin Hawthorne, 32, of Hampton, was arrested on Nov. 13, 2016, on tampering with witnesses or informants and violation of a protective order.

Hawthorne, a parolee, was arrested in June on multiple assault charges after a domestic incident at their home. The day after the incident, police later learned, he allegedly “purposely contacted the victim from the previous case in an attempt to coerce the victim into falsifying the victims’ testimony for the felony domestic assault case,” Deputy Chief David Hobbs of the Hampton Police Department alleged.
Hawthorne also allegedly violated a temporary restraining order at the time by calling his wife’s cellphone number during the alleged attempt to coerce the victims’ testimony, Hobbs noted.
Hawthorne was arrested and charged this week. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is due in court on Jan. 10, 2017.
