The death of independent bookstores in the US has been greatly exaggerated. As a matter of fact there is a renaissance of sorts going on. The stores who have survived the advent of Internet sellers and electronic readers are not only doing better and better, but many new stores have opened or successfully changed hands. These stores provide personalized service and great author events.
